“Miracle” by John David Webster

God Gives Us Many Kinds Of Miracles So We Can Know Him Better!

Miracles are all around us, and this song by John David Webster is about three different and powerful miracles. The first is the miracle of creation, the second is the how God speaks to us through His creation and the third is the miracle of God Himself.

God speaks to us in a number of ways. The bible says in Romans 1:20 that we can see God’s divine character and eternal power by observing nature and, in fact, God uses nature in the bible to illustrate His qualities. In Job chapters 40 and 41 God uses the behemoth and the leviathan to show his power. In the book of 1st Kings God spoke to Elijah in a gentle whisper.

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
1 Ki 19:11-13 (NIV)

My question is: Are we able to recognize His voice? Are we intimately familiar enough with the voice of God that we could recognize it (or the lack of it) in an earthquake or a wind or a fire but hear it in a gentle whisper? In “Miracle” John David Webster talks about his awakening:

Truth be told
I wasn’t one for miracles
Let’s just say I’ve changed my view
Cause loving you I’ve been awakened

John David Webster has been awakened to God’s voice in nature and in his own life. How many ways do you hear God? My prayer for you today is the prayer of Paul for the Ephesians:

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
Ephesians 1:17-19a (NIV)

Lyrics:

I love the way you touch me, I’m so amazed
Your beauty speaks a thousand words,
then it takes my breath away
You burn me up like fire,
and you pour on me like rain
It’s truly amazing, like a miracle

Chorus:
I see you in the sun that shines in the sky
I hear you in the sound of the oceans tide
I feel you in this gentle breeze tonight
I try to explain it,
It’s a miracle to me

You can move my mountains, you can still my soul
You whisper to me like the wind, but it shakes me to the bone
Your Spirit takes me far away, but I feel just right at home
It’s truly amazing, like a miracle

Chorus:

Truth be told
I wasn’t one for miracles
Let’s just say I’ve changed my view
Cause loving you I’ve been awakened
The earth starts quaking
I’m blown away I’m overtaken
By the miracle, the miracle of you

Chorus:

I try to explain it
I just can’t contain it
It’s truly amazing, it’s a miracle to me
Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah, a miracle to me
